Step 1 Knowledge of wind and solar systems helps. The basic understanding and a realistic view of how these systems offset your energy costs. Most people believe that having a system installed on their homes will do away with the electric bill. Not true for most, the idea is to initially offset your energy costs by a percentage. 10% to 30% is good, 30% to 60% is great, 70% to 80% is phenomenal, 100% or better is the ultimate! Realistically it is what the consumer can afford or have purchased with grants and rebates.
Step 2 Now you know a little bit about solar and wind and how it can offset your electric bill, next have Mat-Su Energy Inc design the system to fit your home. Desired energy savings, location and schedule are a few details to consider.
Step 3 Payment: Cash is nice but unrealistic for most. A home equity loan is another way to pay for the system. Then there are federal/state programs that incorporate tax rebates/incentives, and grant applications that can save the consumer many dollars. Leasing is also great for business owners. Paying for these renewable energy systems is always the bump in the road. Most people would have systems if the cost was not an issue. The ROI or return on investment can be formulated as part of the proposal process.
Step 4 Schedule shipment and create a staging area for the installation crew. One to three days may be needed unless the homeowner wishes to install the components. A licensed electrician will be needed in the end to tie the system to the utility connection on the building. From this point maintenance and a casual glance at the condition of the solar panels and wind turbine won't be that difficult.
